All children deserve to grow up in a safe and loving environment…with no expiration date. Yet, in the United States, about 20,000 youth exit foster care each year at the age of 18 and are left to fend for themselves.
Leaving foster care without having a place to call home can carry lifelong consequences. Youth who age out of foster care are more likely to experience homelessness, joblessness, incarceration, early parenthood, and drug abuse.
This doesn’t have to be their future.
The Laszlo Fischer Foundation is proud to partner with Vita Nova to build the Laszlo Fischer House, a 12-unit, apartment building for these young adults to call home as they embark on their journey to independent living.
As a child survivor of the Holocaust and the Nazi occupation of his home in Budapest, Hungary, Laszlo Fischer knew what it felt like to be removed from his home and not know what the future would bring. He was fortunate to survive the Holocaust and spent the rest of his life never taking a day for granted.
In 2020, Laszlo passed away from COVID-19. His son, Michael, established the Laszlo Fischer Foundation to keep the memory of his dad alive and to celebrate his dad’s generous heart and love of children, especially those children in need of a helping hand.
